töne des blau
Construction site lighting, coloured filters
töne des blau is an installation by Denzel T. Russell merging light towers commonly used on constructions sites with different colored gels to highlight forgotten and not commonly known landmarks in Köln. The work draws reference from Russell’s experience growing up in New York where lighting has historically been used as a form of surveillance against people of color and those that reside in low-income communities. Russell pairs the light towers with various shades of blue, abstracting its original oppressive function as they are installed throughout the city.
